Bonus terminology

What does bonus abuse mean?

Bonus abuse is a casino's description of conduct it considers contrary to a promotion's rules. The label alone does not tell you which rule was broken or establish that a disputed finding is correct. The useful question is which clause applies to which account action.

Choosing a bonus does not explain an abuse finding

Comparing offers or looking for favorable conditions is often called bonus hunting. An abuse allegation needs something more specific: for example, a rule about multiple accounts, shared participation, an excluded game or a maximum stake.

The wording varies by operator and promotion. Stake's terms, for example, classify opening multiple accounts to accumulate bonuses as abuse and allow restrictions where Stake believes abuse has occurred. That example does not define every casino's rules or establish the facts of another player's dispute.

Turn the label into a checkable statement

What the casino saysWhat to request
Multiple accounts claimed the offer. The account relationship being alleged and the relevant eligibility clause.
A bet exceeded the promotion's maximum. The round ID, stake, time, active bonus and maximum-stake clause.
A game was excluded. The game name and the promotion's eligible-game list applicable at the time.
Winnings were removed for abuse. The action found to breach the rule, the clause permitting that consequence and the amount affected.

A €5 limit and a €6 bet

In this illustrative example, an active promotion has a €5 maximum stake and the betting record contains a €6 wager. The amount appears to exceed the stated limit. You still need to check that the promotion was active for that round and that this was the applicable rule.

Now change the facts: the bonus had already ended before the €6 wager. The same stake would no longer establish a breach of that active-bonus limit. The timestamp matters as much as the number. These invented amounts explain the check; they are not a quoted casino offer.

An illustrative €6 wager is compared with a €5 offer limit, the exact clause, applicable time and round
This example is not a named casino rule.

Build the reply around the event

  1. Save the applicable offer

Keep the terms you received, including eligibility, game restrictions and stake limits. A later webpage may not show the version attached to your promotion.

  2. Ask for the exact finding

Request the clause and the account, bet or game event said to breach it. Keep the original response.

  3. Separate the amounts

Identify what was removed: bonus funds, winnings, a deposit or another balance. Ask how the stated rule applies to that amount.

A record helps assess a claim; it does not promise an outcome
